About 2 weeks ago Winnie Ryan came to our school. We had loads of questions prepared for her about Anglesboro long ago. She knew a load about the village in the past. She lives in Arizona now and she owns an Irish pub there called ‘The Harp and Shamrock’. She went to the old school in Anglesboro where the community hall is now. There were three classrooms in that school. Mrs Donavan, Mrs Hennessy and Mr Kiely were the teachers. She also said that their teachers would hit the boys with a stick but they never hit the girls. Life was very different back then. There was no electricity in the school. That meant there were no radiators. So the pupils had to bring in turf to heat up the school. She said that there was only one or two cars in the village at the time. She travelled through fields and over a river to get to school because she lived in Ballyduff. Winnies Dad managed the creamery. There were two shops in the village one in the pub and one in the creamery. I thought the history of Anglesboro was very interesting. By Sean Gallahue.
