Haunted Halloween Olympics

26/10/2017

Today the 26/10/17 the whole school took part in our Halloween Olympics. There was loads of different spooky fitness stations and lots of different teams. My team was called the Spooky Spiders. Kayleigh Murphy, Jayden Kiely and Tomás Martin were all on my team. We had to do lots of different challenges such as Rising from the Graveyard, Black Cat Back, Crawling Spiders, Hockey Ghoul, Zombie Step-ups, Zombie Eyes, Blind Man’s Buff, Trick or Treat Race, Witches and Wizards on a Broom, Hurdle the Headstones, Ghost Busters, and Beat the Pumpkin. This was part of our Active Flag campaign and I think at this stage we should get it because we have done so much exercise over the last couple of weeks. The Olympics was a big chance for the 4th, 5th, and 6th to get to know the Junior and Senior infants because there was an infant on each team. My favourite activity was Beat the Pumpkin. It was where you had a blindfold and you had a bat and you had to whack the pumpkin with the bat while blindfolded. We started at around half 9 and finished at 10 to 11. We are trying to do at least an hour of exercise a day. That way at the end of the year we will be as fit as fiddles. And we were so good we all got an extra 5 minutes outside at lunch time. There was an award for the team with the best teamwork and that team was the Wicked Witches and their captain was Paddy. It was all great fun. (By Seán Gallahue)

Today Thursday 26th of October we had had our Halloween Olympics. There were 12 teams. Wicked Witches, Batty Bats (my group), vicious vampires, Grumpy Goblins, Scary Skeletons, and so on. My team had me Ellie Martin, Susie Walsh, Aislinn Fraher, Antony Hogan and Noel Cronin. The stations were Rising from the Graveyard, Black Cat Back, Crawling Spiders, Hockey Ghoul, Zombie Step-ups, Zombie Eyes, Blind Man’s Buff, Trick or Treat Race, Witches and Wizards on a Broom, Hurdle the Headstones, Ghost Busters, and Beat the Pumpkin. I will explain Ghost Busters, Trick or Treat Scare, and Crawling Spiders. Crawling Spiders: We used 4 infant chairs and a rebounder net covered in fake webs. We had to crawl on our tummies under the rebounder. If you weren’t crawling you were skipping. Trick or Treat Race: There was 4 hurdles and 4 huala hoops laid out. You jumped the hurdles and bunny hopped the huala hoops. Once you reached a pumpkin basket you took out an instruction and did what it said. Ghost Busters: Ms Kelly painted eyes and a mouth on toilet rolls. You use a ball to knock them down. It’s the same as bowling. All of this took place in the back yard and hall. The Wicked Witches won certs and everyone got 5 minutes extra break. WOOO HOOOOO. Thanks Ms Kelly and all the teachers. ACTIVE FLAG HERE WE COME. (By Ellie Martin)
