Bhí Ceílí mór againn i Scoil Ghleann na gCreabhar inniu agus bhí craic agus ceol ann.
Today we held a Céilí in the school halla for Seachtain na Gaeilge. It was great fun. Everyone was given a partner. The senior room were partnered up with the junior classes. I was with Kevin and we were in a group of 4 with Mirriam and Evie. We did 2 dances. The Siege of Ennis and an Dreoilín. My favourite dance was the Siege of Ennis because we were changing partners all of the time. (By Seán) Today as part of Friendship week we had "Odd Socks Day". Everyone wore an odd pair of socks to show that everyone is different and everyone is equal. But since I wear odd socks everyday, today to be odd I wore matching socks. (By Kate)
Today was "Odd Socks Day". Odd socks day was for friendship week. Everyone even the teachers wore an odd pair of socks to show that we are all unique. I wore a black sock and a grey sock. We had so much fun. (By Padraig) Congratulations to our 5th and 6th class who were confirmed last Friday by Bishop Kieran O' Reilly.
Last Tuesday our 2nd and 3rd class visited the Anglesboro Tuesday club in the community hall after mass. They really enjoyed their visit where they played cards with some of the members, shared stories and sang for the group. Our 4th, 5th and 6th class are looking forward to visiting the group later in the year.
Well done to our boys in 3rd and 4th class and our girls in 3rd, 4th and 5th class who took part in the indoor hurling blitzes in Martinstown last Thursday. We had a fantastic day out with both teams showing great skill and effort. Our boys won 2 of their 3 games and our girls won 1 of their 2 games. This was the first hurling competition the school has entered in over 20 years and we look forward to taking part in many more in the near future.
Training going well for our indoor hurling and camogie blitzes next week in Martinstown. Great to have our Halla on cold days like today.
The Clan Cluana theatre company came to the school on 19/2/18 and staged an amazing performance of "Young Fionn Mac Cumhaill in our Halla.
On January 7th 2018 we held our Grandparents day in Anglesboro N.S for Catholic school week and it was a big success. We started at 11 am. We went to mass in the hall. Mass was lovely and during it most of the pupils in 4th 5th and 6th class read prayers. At the end each classroom sang a song. Cian R, Ali, Caylee and I read about our grandparents and how much they mean to us. After all that the pupils went back to their classrooms except for 5th and 6th. We stayed and chatted to the Grandparents in the hall and took photos with our new iPads. This was my last Grandparents day in Anglesboro N.S. and one of the best ones as well. All the children and grandparents are looking forward to coming back again next year.
By Paddy On Wednesday the 6th Anglesboro N.S. held their Grandparents day. About 50 Grandparents turner up. We had a mass, sang songs, drew pictures and wrote stories about our Grandparents. We started off by welcoming them with a song and Caoimhe read a reflection about Grandparents. Fr Kelly started off the mass, then Sean and Kate did the readings. Cian H, Hannah, Sean W, Tommy, Evie, Padraig, and Cameron read the prayers of the faithful. When the mass ended, the Boro Buddies sang a song and did a poem. Cian, Paddy, Caylee and I read out stories and memories about our grandparents. Miss Gallahues class then sang “The rattlin bog”, before miss Kelly sang a song from Mary Poppins. Our class also sang “I tell me Ma”. The grandparents sat down and had tea and cakes. We showed our grandparents our classrooms and we all had a great day. By Ali Quane. (More pics to follow) Well done to Kody McRobert Wheelan and the 4th 5th and 6th class who came up with our school motto "Cairde ag fás agus ag foghlaim le chéile" - "Friends growing and learning together. We believe this sums up the togetherness and positive attitude to learning in Anglesboro N.S. Thank you to Mary Hogan who painted our motto which is displayed in the hall of the school.
We had great fun making crosses in school for St Brigid's day.
On the 18/1/18 Tom Morrissey, Pat Donnely and James Ryan came to the school at ten past twelve. They brought the under 21 All Ireland cup. When everyone was in the hall Mr. Kearney introduced them and fourteen people asked questions. After the questions we took photos. Then we took family photos. Soon after the photos, Tom Morrissey signed our jerseys. It was really nice to have the Limerick team come to the school. By Hannah Slattery
Today Thursday 18-01-2018 some of the Limerick u21s visited the school. Tom Morrissey (the captain of the team), Pat Donnely (the manager of the team) and James Ryan the former senior captain all came. We asked a few questions and they gave us some advice like KEEP TRAINING ALWAYS TRAIN. Do you actually know how much they train? They train 5 days a week, three on the pitch and 2 in the gym. I thought they trained just before the actual match. We took a few photos and everyone got a picture with the cup. By Caoimhe Browne Vaughan On Thursday the 18th of January Tom Morrissey the Limerick U21 captain, Pat Donnely the manager of Limerick U21s and James Ryan former Limerick senior captain came to our school. Tom Morrissey brought the All Ireland U21 cup. James Ryan spoke about how you should never give up at what you like and always be confident. Pat said that they lost the minor All Ireland final three years ago to Kilkenny and beat them this year in the U21 All Ireland final. Tom Morrissey said that they trained 5 nights a week, 3 on the pitch and 2 in the gym. We asked Tom questions. I asked him what his favourite stadium to play in was. He said Croke Park. When we were finished asking questions we took a few pictures and asked for autographs. Thanks to Tom, Pat and James for coming out to see us. By Cian Ryan Yoga classes with Marguerite O' Mahony have begun and will run for the next 5 weeks. Friday mornings have never been as calming!!
The senior room are delighted to have resumed violin lessons with Ms Hennessy.
Today as part of our Active Schools campaign we held our Christmas Olympics. A big thank you to the Active Schools committee and Ms Kelly for organising the event. It was great to see the children so active and happy as well as seeing them working together so well for the various challenges. On the 20th of December 2017 we held our Christmas Olympics. The morning was amazing with loads of different fun stations. There was 15 different “Christmassy” stations such as Build a Snowman, Ho Ho Ho Limbo, Santa’s Workshop, Sleigh Pull, Penguin Waddle, Brussel Sprout Relay, The Christmas Tree Challenge, Christmas Cracker Challenge, Turkey Trot, Jingle Bells, Active Selection Box, North Pole Igloo Challenge, Pin the Nose on Rudolph, The Grinch and Twister. My favourite station was Ho Ho Ho Limbo. It was where you had to do the limbo but you had to put on a Santa coat with a cushion and a belt to make it extra hard. There was about 13 or 14 groups altogether. In my group there was Tomás, Jayden and Kayleigh. The place was really full of Christmas spirit with a speaker playing Christmas songs. We hope to do another Olympics for summer. (By Seán) On Wednesday morning when I arrived at school the teachers were setting up our Winter Olympics. Ms Kelly called us to come down to the hall so she could tell us our teams and explain the stations. We had 14 teams with a mixture of different classes. My favourite station was the Penguin Waddle. It was great fun because it was hard to run with a balloon in between your legs. Every one enjoyed the day and we also got an extra 5 minutes of break. Thanks to the teachers and the Active school Committee for making this such a great day. (By Paddy) Our website now has over 5,000 views since going live 3 months ago. Thank you for continuing to check in on us.
Day 7 of our "12 days of fitness" (our active approach to the 12 days of Christmas) and what a lovely morning we had in Anglesboro N.S. It was a welcome break from using the hall the past few mornings. Although as our video below shows, not everyone was as enthusiastic when they were given 8 burpees!!! On Wednesday 13th of December 2017 Anglesboro N.S. hosted their Christmas concert in the hall in Anglesboro at 7p.m. First up we had Boro Buddies preschool and after school singing some fabulous songs. Up next we had juniors seniors and 1st class doing their play and they made a marvellous job of it. It was so funny. Everyone had reasonably the same amount of lines. Before the play we had Pat O Dea. A mighty Irish dancing teacher and he taught the whole school very well. He had a tough decision to pick people to do the dancing on the night. After The Littlest Christmas Tree Ms Gallahues room did their Irish dancing. After that 2nd and 3rd did their Irish dance and they were tantalizing. Sean Gallahue and Cameron Westbrook then did a granny rap. They were amazing. Up next we had Cinderella Big Foot and Cinderella was Liam Bourke who is a great actor. He was also really funny. They put on a fine performance for us. We had a twenty minute break, got tea and did the raffle. After the break Caylee, Sean G, Caoimhe, Tommy, Ellie, Cian R and I did our Irish dance and it was amazing. Our last and final play we did Jack and the Beanstalk with the lead Cameron Westbrook as Jack. He is an excellent actor. There was many good actors too many to name but all put in a big effort to their part of the play. Last but not least we sang some lovely Christmas tunes and that was it for the night. Thanks to all the staff for the great dedication that they put into our performances. We are very proud of what we did. (By Paddy English)
On the 13th December we had our Christmas concert. We started at around 7pm. The first act was the Boro Buddies preschool and after school. They sang Christmas songs and poems. Next was The Littlest Christmas Tree which was performed by Juniors, Seniors, and 1st class. The play was a great laugh and everyone had a fit of laughing. After that the infants and 1st performed sean nós dancing. Soon after the 2nd and 3rd did their sean nós dance which was just tantalizing. Cameron and I then did the “Granny Rap”. My mam said she got a load of positive comments from people about us afterwards. If you were there on the night you would obviously agree that this was the funniest play of the night- “Cinderella Big Foot”. Every single second of it people were crying with laughter. Literally all of the boys were dressed as girls and with the wigs and everything else it was not to be missed. Shortly after there was a break. Then we had our dancing which everyone clapped along to. The final play of the night was our play “Jack and the Beanstalk”. It was really funny to watch I would say. Looking at Paddy as a wife was hilarious. To finish off we then had 1st to 6th singing Christmas carols. It was a great night. (By Seán Gallahue). On the 13\12\2017 our school put on a show. There was a total of 9 acts in Anglesboro community hall. First was the Boro Buddies pre school. They sang songs like you better watch out and jingle bells. Next we had the infants play – “The Littlest Christmas Tree”. It was about three fir trees wanting to be Christmas trees. Then second and third class did Irish dancing. Following this Sean Gallahue and Cameron Westbrook did the Granny Rap which is about a rapping granny. Next we had second and third classes play Cinderella big foot. It was about Cinderella and her big foot. This was a twist on the original. Some students from fifth and sixth were doing Irish dancing. After this we had a break to get buns and drinks. After the break we had fifth and sixth class Jack and the beanstalk. This was about jack getting a bean which grew into a beanstalk. At the end we all sang songs like ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’ and ‘Away in a manger.’ (By Kody) On the 13/12/17 we had our anual Christmas play but this year we did it in the hall and we did dancing, 3 plays and singing. First we had the Boro Buddies preschool and after school. They were so cute and they were really good at singing. Next we had the infants Littlest Christmas Tree. They were fantastic and everyone knew there lines off by heart. After that was the infants dancing. They were brilliant. Seán and Cameron then did the Granny rap. Cinderella big foot was next up. It was hilarious. My favourite part was when Liam was getting changed into his ball gown. Then we had our break. There was a great selection of raffle prizes. 4th 5th and 6th did their sean nós dance after that. Our play Jack and the beanstalk was next. It went amazingly well. My favourite part was when Cian Ryan threw lettuce into the crowd. We had a great night and the best thing is we have no homework until January.
